Manual handling is a physical activity and relates to the transportation of objects or materials by carrying, pushing, lowering, or pulling, and in a lot of cases, a specific activity may not pose much of a problem.
There are though a number of risk factors associated with manual handling, and the risks are increased if the worker is required to carry the object up and down stairs or any height.
Manual handling is defined in Regulation 68 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work, (General Application) Regulations 2007:
“Manual Handling involves any transporting or supporting of any load by one or more employees, and includes lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving a load, which by reason of its characteristics or unfavourable ergonomic conditions, involves risk, particularly of back injury, to employees.”
Manual Handling training is therefore aimed at any persons who, as part of their routine activities or as part of their job, have to carry, lift, pull or push loads.
This course is designed to provide learners with the knowledge to conduct manual handling activities in a safe manner that will help prevent injury and ensures that learners understand the legal requirements associated with Manual Handling.
The training will include practical skills to perform correct lifting techniques. Learners will also understand the limitations and mechanics of the spine and muscular system and realise the consequences of incorrect carrying, lifting, pulling and pushing.
We will deliver the full course in 3 hours to a maximum of 12 participants at your company’s premises. Alternatively, you can attend one of our public courses. We provide our public Manual Handling Course in Dublin at the Maldron Hotel near the Naas Road.

All participants will be trained by QQI (formerly FETAC) accredited experienced Level 6 instructors.
